FDA Panel Finds Popular Decongestant Doesn’t Work and FDA May Remove It From the Market

A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee held a meeting on Sept. 11-12 to decide if the drug phenylephrine should continue to be sold as a treatment for nasal decongestion. This drug is found in many cold and allergy medicines. The committee voted that the data demonstrate that oral versions of phenylephrine are not effective. The FDA will now decide whether or not it will continue to allow the medicine to be sold in oral formulations to treat nasal congestion. This is…
